These images are taken from a workshop that was held in Clady Co. Tyrone as part of Voicing the Bridge: A Crossboarder Project and an online workshop in association with Butler Gallery. Participants in this workshop explored their surrounding biodiversity initially through an exploratory walk of the surrounding built and unbuilt environment and identified various plants, leaves, trees, lichens and flowers, and animals, insects, and birds. A series of questions guided their research enquiry as they discovered the ecological significance, historical use or personal significance of one chosen specimen. In the second part of the workshop, I guided participants through a step by step process of how to assemble a Foldscope or paper microscope. I then demonstrated how to use the microscope to create detailed photographs of local flora or fauna fibers by attaching it to a smart phone. The event was designed to facilitate an inclusive and collective process of curiosity, engagement and discussion of surrounding biodiversity, ecological and cultural heritage.
